West Central Boys Soccer Wins First Playoff Match in School History

The West Central Trojan boys soccer team won their first playoff match in program history on Tuesday, October 6th.  The Trojans earned a quarterfinal win, 2-1, over Freeman/Parker/Marion/Viborg-Hurley Bobcats.

The Trojans put two goals on the board in the first half.  Peyton Barrick and Drake Bosch each scored to give West Central a 2-0 halftime lead.  The Bobcats scored a goal in the second half, but the Trojans held for the win.

This playoff win comes after West Central defeated the Dakota Valley Panthers 4-1 on Thursday, October 1st to end the regular season.

“I’m just incredibly proud of these guys. We’ve battled all season, and tonight was no different. There were moments where things didn’t go our way, but our guys stayed together, kept fighting, and found a way,” said head coach Zak Fogle.  “This is the first playoff win in program history, and that’s something these boys will always be able to say they were a part of. But what makes me most proud is how much they’ve grown throughout the season. They’ve continued to believe in each other and buy into what we’re trying to build.  We’ll enjoy this one tonight, but we know we’re not done. We’re excited for the opportunity to keep playing.”

West Central now has a record of 5-9-1.  The Trojans will play the #3 seed Hot Springs Bison on Saturday, October 10th.  The Bison defeated the Trojans 2-0 on Saturday, September 12th.
