Gross Throws Four Touchdowns in Trojan Win

Carter Gross threw four touchdowns to help the West Central Trojans get back into the win column in a 34-10 victory over the Vermillion Tanagers on Thursday, October 23rd.

Boche Knight opened the night with a bang by scoring on a 56-yard run just :18 into the game.  Dominic Butts made the extra point to put West Central ahead 7-0 early.  Vermillion got on the board with 4:43 to go in the first quarter with a 33-yard field goal to make the score 7-3.

Gross threw his first touchdown to Knight, a 57-yard swing pass, with 3:13 still remaining in the opening quarter.  Butts made the extra point again to extend the lead to 14-3.  Vermillion kept things close as they scored on a 32-yard touchdown pass with just :27 to go in the quarter.  A made extra point cut the lead to 14-10 going into the second quarter.

It was all West Central from that point.  Gross had his second passing touchdown with 9:26 to go in the first half, this time a 53-yard pass to Hayden Heier.  Gross and Knight connected again with 4:20 to play in the third quarter on a 21-yard pass.  Butts made one-of-two extra points in the quarter to give West Central a 27-10 advantage.  Gross had a two-yard touchdown pass to Heier, who made a diving catch in the end zone on a slant, with 4:15 to play in the third quarter.  Butts made the extra point for the 34-10 score.

The Trojans finished the regular season with a 6-3 record and will be the #5 seed in the 11A playoffs.  They will travel to #4 Madison on Thursday, October 30th for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
