Trojans Take Down Lennox in Defensive Battle

The West Central Trojan football team defeated the Lennox Orioles in Lennox on Friday, September 19th.  West Central earned their third straight win with a 9-7 victory, getting a game-winning field goal in the closing minute of the game.

The entire game was a defensive battle.  Neither defense cracked until the fourth quarter.  The first three quarters the score remained 0-0.  Lennox broke the scoreless tie with a seven-yard touchdown pass with 11:15 to play in the game.  A made extra point put the Orioles in the lead 7-0.  West Central responded about a minute later.  Carter Gross tossed a quick pass to Boche Knight, and Knight found openings all over the field to break away for a 70-yard touchdown.  The extra point was missed, and with 10:10 to go in the ball game, Lennox held a 7-6 lead.

The Trojans put together what would be a game-winning drive late.  They got inside the Lennox 20-yard line with under a minute to play.  John Goehring lined up a 27-yard field goal with just :53 to go.  He kicked the ball through the uprights to put the Trojans in front 9-7.  The field goal proved to be the difference to send West Central to a 3-1 record.

The Trojans will travel to Canton on Friday, September 26th for their next game.
