The West Central Trojans faced Region 3A foe, the Garretson Blue Dragons, in Garretson on Tuesday, October 22nd. The Trojans suffered a straight set defeat by scores of 25-22, 25-9, and 25-20.
Garretson opened the match with a two-point lead of 3-1 and 6-4. The Blue Dragons took their lead to 9-5. West Central was able to slowly cut into the lead and eventually tied the score 14-14. The Trojans then went ahead 18-16 and 21-18. The Blue Dragons, however, scored the next three points to tie the score 21-21. They would finish the set on a 4-1 run for a 25-22 win.
Momentum was on the side of the Blue Dragons in the second set. They took an early 4-1 and kept building from there. Garretson pushed the lead to 18-8 before ending on a 7-1 run for a 25-9 victory. The Blue Dragons seemed to be headed towards another quick victory in the third set. They broke a 3-3 tie for a 12-7 lead. Garretson remained in front by five, 14-9, but the Trojans started a come back. West Central got within a point at scores of 16-15, 18-17, and 20-19. The Blue Dragons would stop the come back and finish the match on a 5-1 run for a 25-20 win.
