The Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks put two more victories into their win column with a win over the Canova Gang on Thursday, July 9th and a win over the Flandreau Cardinals on Sunday, July 12th.
Wood Ducks 13, Canova 6
The Wood Ducks scored the first five runs of the game and stayed in front the rest of the game in their win over the Gang. After a scoreless first inning, the Wood Ducks scored two in the second and three in the top of the third for a 5-0 lead. Canova scored two times in the bottom of the third to make the score 5-2. The Wood Ducks would add three runs in the top of the fifth, while the Gang had a two-run bottom of the inning. Hartford/Humboldt put four more runs on the board in the top of the seventh. Canova only scored one time in their half of the inning for 12-5 score. Each team had a run in the eighth inning.
Keaton Vessells finished with four hits and an RBI. Brayden Odegaard had a single and two doubles with four RBIs. Jearl Jesson also had a single and two doubles with two RBIs. Drew Eldeen finished with two singles and a double with one RBI. Ben Honkomp had a double with two RBIs. Hayden Whiting added a single and two RBIs. Camden McDonald, Brodie Herr, and Jacob Ellens all had one hit each. Curtis Flint had an RBI.
Wood Ducks 6, Flandreau Cardinals 4
Early runs were once again key to the Wood Ducks victory on Sunday. They took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Flandreau got one run back in the top of the third, but the Wood Ducks added three in the bottom of the inning for a 5-1 lead. The Cardinals kept the game close, 5-3, with two runs in the top of the fourth. The Wood Ducks added to their lead, 6-3, with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Flandreau’s final run came in the top of the seventh.
Flint finished with two hits and an RBI. Chad Hunt and Jesson both had two singles each . Logan Larsen had a single with two RBIs. Odegaard added a double and an RBI. Vessells ended with a single and an RBI. McDonald, Loren Jacobson, and Whiting all had one hit each.
