West Central VFW Baseball Runs Win Streak to Three

The West Central VFW Varsity baseball team ran their win streak to three games with two more wins in their last two games.  They defeated Garretson at home on Thursday, June 25th and then earned a one-run win over Baltic at home on Monday, June 29th.

West Central 9, Garretson 5

A four-run third inning was key to West Central’s 9-5 win over Garretson on Thursday.  Both teams scored three times in the first inning.  Garretson went back in front 4-3 with a run in the top of the second.  West Central grabbed the lead 7-4 with four runs in the third.  Each team would get a run in the fifth.  West Central plated an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

Hayden Whiting had three hits, including two doubles, and six RBIs.  Kane Grace had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Eli Koehn had two singles with an RBI.  Taylon Sichmeller also had two hits.  Max Lewin finished with a double and an RBI.  Hayes Cain and Maddax Jackson each had a single.

West Central 11, Baltic 10

West Central earned an 11-10 walk-off win after Baltic rallied to take the lead in the top of the seventh inning.  Baltic scored three runs right away in the top of the first inning.  West Central rallied for three in the bottom of the second to tie the game.   West Central grabbed the lead, 7-3, with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.  They tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 9-3 advantage.  Baltic then put together a big rally and scored seven times in the top of the seventh for a 10-9 lead.  With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Cain had an RBI single to tie the game 10-10.  Jett Whiting would score the winning run on an error two batters later.

Cooper Ball finished with three hits and two RBIs.  Lewin ended with two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Cain added two singles with an RBI.  Jackson finished with two singles.  H. Whiting ended with a single and two RBIs.  Grace had a double with an RBI.  Carson Johnson and Noah Erickson both had a hit and an RBI.  Koehn and Andrew Holtzman both had one hit.
