West Central Baseball Holds Tough in Win over Sioux Falls Christian

The West Central high school baseball scored early and then held tough to earn a 5-4 win over Sioux Falls Christian on Tuesday, April 28th.  West Central allowed the four runs despite not allowing a hit.  The win moved West Central to 8-0 on the season.

With two outs in the bottom of the second, Beckett Everson got West Central on the board with a two-run single.  Gunnar Alfson followed with a two-run double to give West Central a 4-0 lead.  Sioux Falls Christian cut the lead in half, 4-2, with two runs in the top of the third.  Taten Van Overbeke scored on an error in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 5-2.

Sioux Falls Christian scored on a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth to make the score 5-3.  They would cut the lead down to one, 5-4, after a run scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the top of the seventh.  Nick Lorang was able to force a fly out to end the game and secure the win.

Alfson had a double and two RBIs.  Everson added a single and two RBIs.  CJ Den Boer and Van Overbeke each had a hit.  Alfson pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on four walks and five strikeouts.  Carson Johnson tossed 2 2/3 innings and allowed an unearned run on three walks and two strikeouts.  Den Boer also threw 1 2/3 innings and allowed an earned runs on two walks.
