West Central Baseball Evens Record with Road Win

The West Central high school baseball team evened their record to 3-3 after an 8-5 win over Mt Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica/Stickney (MVPCS) Padres on Sunday, April 27th.

West Central got on the board early with three runs in the top of the first.  They held a 3-0 lead until the Padres tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the third.  West Central stopped momentum by scoring two runs in the top of the fourth.  MVPCS got one run back, and West Central led 5-4 after four innings of play.  West Central put some distance between them and the Padres with a three-run top of the fifth.  The Padres scored one time in the bottom of the inning for the 8-5 score.  Neither team scored in the final two innings of the game.

Hayden Whiting had three doubles and three RBIs for West Central.  Gunnar Alfson added a double with two RBIs.  Zach Lorang had a single and two RBIs.  Keaton Vessells had a hit with an RBI, and Hayes Cain ended with a hit.

Beckett Everson pitched three innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Alfson also pitched three innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts.  CJ DenBoer threw one inning and allowed a hit and a walk.
