Fifth Inning Rally Lifts West Central Baseball to Win

The West Central high school baseball team used a fifth-inning rally to help them to an 8-4 win over McCook Central on Wednesday, May 7th.

McCook Central started with a 1-0 lead by scoring a run in the bottom of the first.  West Central tied the game with a run in the top of the third.  They took the lead, 2-1, with a run in the top of the fourth.  The big blow was delivered by West Central when they scored five runs for a 7-1 lead.  McCook Central scored a run in the bottom of the fifth.  Both teams scored a run in the sixth making the score 8-3 in favor of West Central.  McCook Central scored one more run in the bottom of the seventh.

Keaton Vessells had two hits, one a home run, with two RBIs.  Caden Alfson had a home run with three RBIs.  Gunnar Alfson added two hits.  Beckett Everson, Zach Lorang, and Lando Whiting all had one hit each.  Hayes Cain added an RBI.  Ashton Gebhardt pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts.  CJ DenBoer pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed an earned run on three hits with two strikeouts.
