Trojan Girls Basketball Drops Two in Back to Back Days

The West Central Trojan girls basketball team played two games on back-to-back days.  They traveled to Groton on Friday, December 20th and then to Vermillion for the Vermillion Boosters Holiday Classic on Saturday, December 21st.  The Trojans fell to Groton 45-35.

On a very short rest, West Central played Crofton in the classic at Vermillion.  Crofton built a a 10-point lead, 21-11, by the end of the first quarter.  They extended that lead to 31-17 by halftime.  Crofton went ahead by a game-high 16 points, 39-23, with 4:30 to play in the quarter.  West Central went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 39-30 over the next minute and a half.  Crofton would end the third quarter leading 42-30.  The Trojans cut the lead in half, 44-38, with 3:30 to go in the game, but Crofton held off the rally for a 50-40 victory.

Abbi Thornton finished with eight points and four rebounds.  Rayna Goehring and Kacey Jaton both had seven points each.  Ellie Knight added six points, three rebounds, and four steals.  Mara Schultz had five points and four rebounds.  Kaylie Schultz also had five points with three rebounds.
