The #2 seeded West Central Trojans cruised to a 16-1 opening round win over the #7 seeded Beresford Watchdogs in the opening round of the 2023 South Dakota State A Softball Tournament on Thursday, June 1st in Aberdeen.
West Central took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Trojans then put eight more runs on the board in the bottom of the second and another 2 in the bottom of the third for an 11-0 lead. Beresford got their lone run in the top of the fourth to make the score 11-1. The Trojans ended the game in the bottom of the fourth with five more runs.
Izzi Parsons had four hits and an RBI. Elisabeth Miller finished with three hits, two of them doubles, and an RBI. Hanna Raethz had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Emillee Stofferahn added a home run and double with two RBIs. Jocelyn Nilson finished with two singles and two RBIs. Caitlyn Hoff had a triple and two RBIs. Kaylee Olson and Kadence Lupkes both finished with a single and RBI. Stofferahn pitched four innings allowing one run, which was unearned, on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
The Trojans will play Dakota Valley on Friday, June 2nd.
