West Central Boys Advance after Region 3A Win

The West Central Trojans (11-10) advanced to a “SoDak 16 Qualifying” game in the Region 3A tournament after an opening round win over the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars on Tuesday, February 28th.  The Trojans grabbed the lead in the first quarter and took the win 76-47.

After a 9-9 tie with 3:15 to play in the first quarter, West Central went on a 10-2 run to end the quarter and lead 19-11.  The Trojans kept slowly building the lead throughout the rest of the game.  West Central led 35-21 at halftime and extended the lead to 49-28 by the end of the third quarter.

The Trojans shot 53% (30-57) from the field overall, 39% (7-18) on three-point shots, and 75% (9-12) from the free-throw line.  The Fighting Cougars were 45% (19-42) shooting overall, 29% (6-21) from three-point area, and 30% (3-10) from the free-throw line.

Four players finished in double figures.  Erik Seten had 21 points, four rebounds, and three steals.  Dylan Stromer finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists.  Brodie Herr added 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists.  Owen Heath ended with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and three steals.  Crew Heier had eight points.
