Garretson Ends West Central Run in Region 3A

The West Central Trojans (14-8) took a 10-game winning streak to Garretson for a Region 3A “SoDak 16 Qualifying” game against the Garretson Blue Dragons on Saturday, February 25th.  The Blue Dragons took the lead late in the game and ended the winning streak with a 44-43 win, which also ended the season for the Trojans.

West Central, after falling behind early in the first quarter, got on a roll and led 14-6 with :50 left in the opening quarter.  The first quarter break came with the Trojans leading 14-8.  Both offenses struggled a bit in the second quarter, and West Central continued to lead at halftime at 18-16.

The Trojans were able to extend their lead to five points, 29-24, with 2:15 to go in the third quarter, but Garretson finished the quarter on an 8-2 run to lead 32-31 going into the fourth quarter.  West Central started the fourth with a 7-0 run and retook the lead 38-32 with 4:55 to go.  Garretson again mounted a comeback and took the lead 44-43 with about :15 to go.  The Trojans last-second, game-winning attempt was no good, and the Blue Dragons took the win.

West Central shot 34% (16-47) from the field, 25% (4-16) on three-point attempts, and 64% (7-11) from the free-throw line.  Garretson was 36% (17-47) shooting from the field, 39% (7-18) from three-point area, and 50% (3-6) from the free-throw line.

Jazelle Jarding finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.  Tessa VanOverbeke added 11 points.  Aubree Miller had eight points, five rebounds, and three steals.  Cambell Fischer had seven points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
