Tri-Valley Girls Get Big Win over Canton

The Tri-Valley Mustang girls basketball team has been on a roll in their last four games.  They have won three of those games, and their lone loss in that stretch was a close game at Dakota Valley.  The Mustangs got a big win on Tuesday, January 24th when they defeated the Canton C-Hawks 53-47.

Tri-Valley held a lead at each of the quarter breaks in a game that saw the biggest lead at 11 points.  The Mustangs led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter, but they were able to extend that to 24-19 at halftime.  Canton cut into the lead in the third quarter, and Tri-Valley only led 38-36 heading into the final quarter.  Canton took a brief lead early in the fourth, but the Mustangs rallied to get the win.

The Mustangs shot 30% (17-56) overall, 29% (8-28) from three-point area, and 52% (11-21) from the free-throw line.  Canton finished the game shooting 30% (17-56) as well, 30% (8-27) on three-point attempts, but only made 5-12 free-throws, which was the difference in the game.

Lauren Grinde had 19 points, six rebounds, and three assists.  Hailey Sorenson finished with nine points and four rebounds.  Steph Buchmann added eight points, four rebounds, and three assists.  Elizabeth Davey finished with six points, and Hillary Hastings had five points and three rebounds.
