Tri-Valley Girls Get Back in Win Column at DSU Classic

The Tri-Valley Mustangs got themselves back into the win column after a victory at the Dakota State University Classic in Madison on Saturday, January 20th.  The Mustangs defeated the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Warriors 57-47.

The Warriors had the lead at the end of the first three quarters.  They led 15-12 at the end of the first quarter.  Tri-Valley cut the lead to 24-22 at halftime.  Both teams would score 11 points each in the third quarter, and the Warriors led 35-33 going into the fourth quarter.  The Mustangs started the fourth quarter on a 9-2 run for a 42-37 lead and never looked back.  Tri-Valley outscored the Warriors 24-12 in the final quarter for the come-from-behind win.

The Mustangs shot 27% (14-52) overall in the game, 26% (7-27) from three-point area, but got the job done from the free-throw line shooting 71% (22-31).  The Warriors shot 46% (16-35) overall in the game, 3-10 on three-point attempts, and 52% (12-23) from the free-throw line.  Tri-Valley forced 24 turnovers in the game, converting those into 18 points.

Lauren Grinde, named the games MVP, had 20 points, three rebounds, four assists, and four steals.  Elizabeth Davey had 11 points and two steals.  Madelyn Wenzel added nine points, three rebounds, two assists, and five steals.  Mattie Huwe finished with seven points, three rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
