Mustang Girls Win Second Straight

The Tri-Valley Mustang girls won their second straight game after a 54-36 win over the Canton C-Hawks on Tuesday, January 23rd.

The C-Hawks built a six-point lead, 11-5, with 3:00 to go in the opening quarter.  Tri-Valley finished the quarter on an 8-0 run for a 13-11 lead.  Each team had a lead in the second quarter.  Canton led 16-15, but the Mustangs went on another run and ended the first half with a 25-18 lead.

The Mustangs extended their lead to 11 points, 33-22, with 4:30 to play in the third quarter.  Canton got within six points, but the Mustangs ended the quarter ahead 41-32.  The Mustangs slowly extended their lead throughout the fourth quarter by outscoring Canton 13-4 in the final quarter.

Tri-Valley shot 34% (21-61) from the field, 28% (7-25) from three-point area, and 56% (5-9) from the free-throw line.  Canton finished the game shooting 29% (15-51) overall, 27% (4-15) on three-point shots, and 2-6 from the free-throw line.

Madelyn Wenzel finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.  Lauren Grinde added 11 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Emery Pearson had nine points, eight rebounds, and two steals.  Mattie Huwe also had nine points with three rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
