Tri-Valley Falls to Elk Point-Jefferson in 11B Quarterfinals

The Tri-Valley Mustangs traveled to Elk Point-Jefferson for a rematch with the Huskies in the quarterfinals of the 11B playoffs on Thursday, October 26th.  The Mustangs scored first, but the Huskies scored the final 14 points for a 14-7 win.

Colby Curruthers gave Tri-Valley the lead in the first quarter on a four-yard run.  Reese Smith made the extra point for a 7-0 lead.  The score remained 7-0 in favor of the Mustangs at halftime.

Elk Point-Jefferson tied the game in the third quarter on a two-yard touchdown run by Gunner Ewing.  The extra point was made for a 7-7 score.  The score was 7-7 at the end of the third quarter.

The Tri-Valley defense got a big fourth-down stop after a pass break up by Landyn Reiser with 8:01 to go in the game.  On the ensuing offensive Mustang drive, the Huskies got an interception on a tipped pass, and it was returned for a 55 yards for a touchdown.  Elk Point-Jefferson took the lead 14-7 with 5:25 to play in the game, which turned out to be the game winning score.

Carruthers finished with 11 carries for 42 yards and a touchdown.  Brody Dybvig had 10 carries for 63 yards.  Eli McFarland was 2-6 passing for seven yards and an interception.  Logan Ellison had one catch for five yards.

Tri-Valley’s season comes to an end with a 6-4 overall record.
