The Tri-Valley Mustangs hosted the St Thomas More Cavaliers in the opening round of the 11B playoffs on Thursday, October 19th. The Mustangs advanced to the quarterfinals after a 24-7 victory.
Neither team scored in the opening quarter. Reese Smith put the Mustangs on the board first with a 37-yard field goal in the second quarter. The Cavaliers took the lead on the next drive after a 31-yard touchdown pass. St Thomas More remained in front 7-3 at halftime.
Eli McFarland had a one-yard, quarterback sneak for a touchdown in the third quarter. Smith made the extra point, and Tri-Valley went back in front 10-7. Carter Sorenson had a 12-yard touchdown run later in the quarter. Smith made another extra point to extend the lead to 17-7.
Early in the fourth quarter, Brody Dybvig had a 35-yard touchdown run. After another made extra point by Smith, the Mustangs had a 24-7 lead. The Tri-Valley defense shut down the Cavaliers the rest of the game to secure the win.
The Mustangs will travel to take on the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on Thursday, October 26th.
