Tri-Valley Boys Survive Against Huskies, Win in Overtime

The Tri-Valley Mustangs lost a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, but still got the win, 57-53, in overtime against the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on Thursday, January 25th.

The Mustangs built a five-point lead, 11-6, in the first quarter, but the quarter ended with Tri-Valley leading 11-8.  The Huskies started the second quarter on a 9-2 run for a 17-13 lead.  The Mustangs responded with an 8-0 run to retake the lead 21-17.  That is where the first half ended.

Elk Point-Jefferson tied the game 23-23 and again 25-25 in the third quarter.  Tri-Valley then went on a 13-0 run the rest of the quarter for a 38-25 lead going into the fourth quarter.  The Huskies kept chipping away at the lead the entire fourth quarter and tied the game 49-49 with a three-point basket in the closing seconds of regulation.  Tri-Valley’s last second shot fell short, and the game went into overtime.  The Huskies started overtime on a 4-0 run for a 53-49 lead, but Tri-Valley ended the game on an 8-0 run for the 57-53 win.

Logan Ellison had 16 points, three rebounds, and six assists.  Trey Johnson finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals.  Tristen Bunde had 12 points, seven rebounds, six steals, and three assists.  Teagin Gacke had five points and two rebounds.
