Canton’s Second Half Surge Leads to Win over Mustang Boys

The Canton C-Hawks put together a strong second half to help them to a 68-54 win over the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Tuesday, January 23rd.

The Mustangs started the game on a 7-2 run.  The C-Hawks went on an 8-0 run for a 10-7 lead.  They continued their run to push the lead to 17-9.  The Mustangs were able to cut the lead to 22-17 by the end of the first quarter.  Tri-Valley rallied in the second quarter and regained the lead 30-28 late in the quarter, but the half ended with a 30-30 tie.

Canton had another run to start the third quarter.  They outscored Tri-Valley 10-3 in the first five minutes for a 40-33 lead.  The Mustangs got within two points, 44-42, late in the quarter, but the C-Hawks led 52-44 going into the fourth quarter.  Canton then outscored the Mustangs 16-10 in the final quarter.

Tri-Valley shot 36% (20-56) overall, 22% (5-23) from three-point area, and 69% (9-13) from the free-throw line.  Canton shot 40% (27-68) overall, 21% (4-19) on three-point shots, and 67% (10-15) from the free-throw line.

Trey Johnson finished with 13 points, 13 rebounds, and two assists.  Logan Ellison also had 13 points with eight rebounds, and three assists.  Carter Sorenson added 10 points, three rebounds, four steals, and two assists.  Brady Jewett had nine points, three rebounds, and three steals.
