The Tri-Valley Mustang boys had their 2023-2024 season come to an end in the opening round of the Region 3A Tournament on Tuesday, February 27th. The Mustangs fell to the Dell Rapids Quarriers 65-45.
Tri-Valley trailed by just two points at the end of the first quarter, 17-14. They were still within three points, 26-23, with 3:00 to play in the second quarter. Dell Rapids then finished the half on a 10-0 run for a 36-23 lead at halftime. The Quarrier offense outscored the Mustangs 17-15 in the third quarter for a 53-38 lead going into the fourth quarter. Tri-Valley was held to just eight points in the final quarter of play.
Tri-Valley shot 37% (18-49) from the field overall, 25% (3-12) from three-point area, and 6-8 from the free-throw line. Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 45% (24-53) overall, 38% (8-21) on three-point shots, and 53% (9-17) from the free-throw line.
Trey Johnson finished with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists. Logan Ellison added eight points. Brady Jewett had seven points and three rebounds. Carter Sorenson added five points and three rebounds.
