Mustangs Celebrate Homecoming with Football Win

The Tri-Valley Mustangs ended homecoming week with a 46-0 win over the Sisseton Redmen on Friday, September 8th.

Colby Carruthers found the end zone on a two-yard run with 5:02 to go in the opening quarter.  Carter Sorenson scored his first of three touchdowns in a row with 7:32 to go in the second quarter.  The first score came on a six-yard run.  A two-point conversion made the score 14-0.  Sorenson scored again on a three-yard run later in the quarter.  Reese Smith made the extra point for a 21-0 lead.  Sorenson scored one more time with under a minute to play in the half on a 16-yard run.  Tri-Valley led 27-0 at halftime.

Smith added a 29-yard field goal in the third quarter to push the score to 30-0.  Eli McFarland connected with Trey Johnson for a 50-yard touchdown pass.  A Smith extra point gave the Mustangs a 37-0 lead.  Smith booted a 35-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 40-0.  Cole Hendrixson scored the final touchdown on a 25-yard run.

The Mustangs finished with 451 yards of offense, 355 rushing yards and 96 passing yards.  Sisseton had just 81 yards of total offense, 45 rushing yards and 36 passing yards.

Carruthers had 11 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown.  McFarland finished with six carries for 60 yards.  Logan Ellison added seven carries for 58 yards.  Sorenson had five carries for 45 yards and three touchdowns.   Brody Dybvig had eight carries for 27 yards.  Hendrixson had a run for 25 yards and a touchdown.

McFarland was 4-7 passing for 96 yards and a touchdown.  Johnson had two catches for 58 yards and a touchdown.  Landyn Reiser had a catch for 22 yards, and Dybvig had a catch for 16 yards.

Carruthers finished with three tackles.  Smith had two tackles and a sack.  Brendan Newman had an interception.  Tyler Groenewold, Johnson, and Cyrus Kirstein all had two tackles each.
