The Tri-Valley Mustang volleyball team had their first home match of the season on Thursday, August 24th. The Mustangs hosted the Parker Pheasants. Tri-Valley earned their first win, 3-1, by scores of 25-21, 22-25, 26-24, and 25-20.
The Mustangs opened the match with an early 4-1 run in the first set. The Pheasants responded with a 6-0 run to take the lead 7-4. Parker extended that lead to 12-7 before Tri-Valley made a run. The Mustangs went on a 10-0 run to regain the lead 17-12. Parker got with in a point, 20-19, but Tri-Valley finished the first set on a 5-2 run to take the win. After an early 5-3 lead by Tri-Valley, Parker tied the second set 7-7 and then led for most of the set. They held leads of 12-7, 16-11, and 21-16. The Mustangs rallied to tie the score 22-22, but the Pheasants scored the final three points to win the second set and tie the match 1-1.
The third set was back-and-forth through most of it. The teams were tied 7-7 and 12-12. The Mustangs were able to go on a 5-1 run to take a 17-13 advantage. Parker closed the gap to 17-16, but Tri-Valley had a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 22-16. Tri-Valley was at set point, 24-21, but Parker rallied for three straight to tie the score 24-24. The Mustangs rebounded and scored the final two points to win 26-24. The Pheasants looked to be in control of the fourth set through the halfway point. They built a 12-6 lead and still led 14-10. Tri-Valley then took momentum with a 7-0 rally to go in front 17-14. They maintained a three-point lead all the way to 22-19 before ending the set and match 25-20.
Emery Pearson had 13 kills, two ace serves, and two blocks. Madelyn Wenzel finished with six kills and nine digs. Nevaeh Gran had four kills and an ace. Tori O’Toole also had four kills. McKenzie Atwood tallied two ace serves, and Julia Mauszycki had one ace and five digs. Abby Wagner finished with 21 set assists, and Emily Wenzel had nine. Cheyenne Hanson had five digs on the night.
