The Tri-Valley Mustang volleyball team started their 2023 season on the road in Garretson on Tuesday, August 22nd. The Blue Dragons won the match in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-8, and 26-16.
Garretson opened the match by building an early 9-4 lead. They were able to push it to 12-6 before Tri-Valley made a run. The Mustangs scored seven straight to take a 13-12 lead. Tri-Valley extended their lead to 17-13 completing an 11-1 run. Garretson responded, however, with a 6-0 run to regain the lead 19-17. After Tri-Valley tied the set again at 19-19, Garretson finished the first set on a 6-3 run for a 25-22 win.
The late rally by Garretson in the first set gave them momentum in the second set. They started on a 7-1 run and cruised from there. They slowly extended the lead to 16-5 and then to 19-6 before winning 25-8. The Blue Dragons again started the third set on a run and built a 9-1 advantage. They kept the Mustangs in a five-to-seven point hold throughout the set. Garretson then pulled away at 21-13 and won the set 25-16 to take the match.
