The Tri-Valley Mustang volleyball team improved to 5-5 on the season after a straight-set win over the Canton C-Hawks on Tuesday, September 22nd. The Mustangs won by scores of 25-22, 25-20, and 25-23.
The opening set of the match started with a 3-3 tie. Tri-Valley took a 6-4 lead and stayed in the lead throughout most of the rest of the set. They led by 10-8, but the C-Hawks cut the lead down to one point, 12-11. Tri-Valley was able to extend the lead to 15-11 with a 3-0 run. The lead grew to 22-16, but Canton rallied to cut the lead down to two points, 24-22. Tri-Valley got that final point to win 25-22.
The Mustangs started the second set with a slim 3-2 advantage. They pushed the advantage to four points at 11-7 and again 14-10. Tri-Valley scored the next two points to build a six-point lead, 16-10. Canton was only able to get the lead down to three points multiple times at 18-15, 20-17 and 22-19. The Mustangs finished with a 3-1 run to take a 25-20 win.
Canton scored the first two points of the third set, but Tri-Valley went on an 8-1 run to take an 8-3 lead. They led 10-4, but Canton was able to chip away at the lead. The C-Hawks got the lead down to 16-15 and then eventually tied at 18-18. The Mustangs responded with four straight to retake the lead 22-18. Canton followed with four straight of their own to tie things at 22-22. The score was tied again 23-23, but the Mustangs scored the final two points for the straight-set win.
