Mustang Girls Win at Dak-12/NEC Clash

The Tri-Valley Mustangs (7-9) earned their second straight win after a 63-53 victory over the Redfield Pheasants at the Dak-12/NEC Clash in Madison on Saturday, February 4th.

Tri-Valley built themselves a 17-8 lead by the end of the first quarter.  They were still in front by seven points, 26-19, at halftime.  Redfield put together a rally early in the third quarter and got within four points, 32-28, with 5:30 to play.  The Mustangs responded with a 14-2 run to extend their lead to 46-30 with 1:35 left in the third.  Tri-Valley’s lead was not really threatened the rest of the game.  They were able to respond each time Redfield made a run and made their free throws in the closing minutes of the game.

The Mustangs shot 39% (20-51) overall from the field, 33% (6-18) from three-point area, and 89% (17-19) from the free-throw line.  Redfield finished the game shooting 41% (16-39) overall, 50% (9-18) from three-point area, and 67% (12-18) from the free-throw line.

Lauren Grinde, named the game’s MVP, had 22 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Mattie Huwe had 17 points and three rebounds.  Ava Pearson finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Hailey Sorenson added eight points, four rebounds, and two assists.
