Mustang Girls Hold off Quarriers

The Tri-Valley Mustangs (6-9) held off a comeback bid by the Dell Rapids Quarriers on Thursday, February 2nd.  The Mustangs took the win 54-44.

Tri-Valley stormed out of the gates and built a 21-10 lead after the first quarter.  Dell Rapids counted with a big second quarter and cut the lead to 26-21 by halftime.  The Quarriers pulled within a point, 32-31, with 2:30 to play in the third quarter.  Tri-Valley regrouped and pushed the lead back to five points, 36-31, by the end of the third quarter.  The Mustangs then outscored Dell Rapids 18-13 in the final quarter.

The Mustangs shot 35% (17-48) overall, 40% (6-15) from three-point area, and 78% (14-18) from the free-throw line.  Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 32% (15-47) overall, 30% (6-20) on three-point attempts, and 62% (8-13) from the free-throw line.

Lauren Grinde finished with 26 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals.  Steph Buchmann had 12 points, four rebounds, and three steals.  Ava Pearson ended with nine points, 11 rebounds, and four blocked shots.
