Mustang Girls Rally Falls Short in Mt Vernon

The Tri-Valley Mustang girls got behind in the first half and rallied in the second half, but the Mt Vernon/Plankinton held for a 44-39 win on Thursday, January 9th.

The Mustangs took an early 5-4 lead in the first quarter, but the Titans finished the quarter on a 9-0 run for a 13-5 lead.  Mt Vernon/Plankinton extended their lead in the second quarter and led 23-12 at halftime.  The Titans scored the first four points of the second half to extend the lead to 27-12.  That’s when Tri-Valley went on a big rally.  The Mustangs ended the quarter on a 16-3 run to cut the lead to 30-28 going into the fourth quarter.  The rally continued for Tri-Valley.  They went ahead 31-30.  Tri-Valley also led 36-35 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Titans ended the game on a 9-3 run for a 44-39 win.

Tri-Valley shot 21.5% (14-65) overall in the game, 21% (9-42) on three-point shots, and 2-10 from the free-throw line.  Mt Vernon/Plankinton shot 43% (18-42) overall, 15% (2-13) on three-point shots, 35% (6-17) rom the free-throw line.

Izzy Davey finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and two assists.  Hailey Sorenson had nine points, two rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  Mattie Huwe added eight points and three rebounds.  Kadence Davey had seven points and six rebounds.
