Mustang Girls Advance in Region 3A Tournament

The Tri-Valley Mustang girls advanced to the next round of the Region 3A Tournament after a win at home in the opening round on Tuesday, February 20th.  The Mustangs got rolling in the third quarter in their 53-25 win.

Offense was hard to come by for most of the game for both teams.  Dell Rapids held a one-point lead, 8-7, at the end of the first quarter.  The Mustangs went on an 11-0 run to take an 18-8 lead.  The second quarter ended with Tri-Valley leading 20-13.  The Quarriers scored the first five points of the third quarter.  They trailed 20-18 with about 6:00 to go in the third quarter.  That’s when the offense got rolling for Tri-Valley.  The Mustangs rallied to a 32-20 lead going into the fourth quarter.  They then held Dell Rapids to just five fourth-quarter points.

Tri-Valley shot 29% (16-56) overall, 26% (6-23) from three-point area, and 71% (15-21) from the free-throw line.  The Quarriers shot 19% (7-36) overall in the game, 5% (1-19) on three-point shots, and 50% (10-20) from the free-throw line.

Lauren Grinde had 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists.  Elizabeth Davey had nine points and three rebounds.  Hailey Sorenson had eight points and three rebounds.  Madelyn Wenzel added seven points and eight rebounds.  Mattie Huwe and Abigail Wagner both had five points each.
