Mustang Football Season Ends in Tough Loss to Canton

The Tri-Valley Mustangs had their football season come to an end on Thursday, October 24th.  The Mustangs hosted the Canton C-Hawks.  The C-Hawks won the back-and-forth battle 37-34.

Canton scored the first touchdown of the game on a two-yard run with about 6:30 remaining in the quarter.  A made extra point put the C-Hawks ahead 7-0.  Brody Dybvig put the Mustangs on the board with ha 72-yard interception return for a touchdown with about 2:00 to go in the first quarter.  The extra point was no good, and Canton led 7-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The C-Hawks extended their lead on a 13-yard touchdown pass with about 10:15 to go in the second quarter.  The two-point conversion made the score 15-6.  Brady Jewett had a 10-yard touchdown pass to Dybvig with about 6:00 to go in the half.  Jewett connected with Noah Eggert for the two-point conversion to pull the Mustangs within a point, 15-14.  Canton, however, scored right before the end of the half on a 10-yard run.  They also converted the two-point conversion to make the score 23-14 going into halftime.

Dybvig scored his third touchdown of the game with about 10:30 to play in the third quarter on a 32-yard run.  Brechen Frederick scored the two-point conversion to make the score 23-22.  Tri-Valley took the lead for the first time with about 5:00 remaining in the third quarter.  Jewett threw a 27-yard screen pass on fourth down to Frederick for a score giving Tri-Valey a 28-23 lead.  Canton regained the lead, 31-28, in the closing seconds of the quarter on a nine-yard run and two point conversion.

The Mustangs provided some fireworks to start the fourth quarter.  Jewett threw a 54-yard touchdown to Landyn Reiser on the first play.  The two-point conversion was no good keeping the score 34-31.  Canton took the lead again, 37-34, with around 9:00 to go in the game on a seven-yard run.  Tri-Valley was forced to punt on their next drive, and unfortunately for the Mustangs, Canton kept the ball and ran out the clock to preserve the win.

The Mustangs ended the season with a 3-6 overall record.
