Mustang Football Bounces Back with Big Win

A week after a tough, triple overtime loss at Winner, the Tri-Valley Mustangs bounced back with a big win in their second straight road game on Friday, August 25th.  The Mustangs defeated the Parker Pheasants 45-13 for their first win of the season.

On their first drive of the game, Brody Dybvig delivered a big play on an 80-yard touchdown run with 7:39 to go.  Reese Smith made the extra point for a 7-0 lead.  Eli McFarland added an eight-yard touchdown run just seconds before the end of the first quarter.  Another made extra point pushed the lead to 14-0.  About midway through the second quarter, Smith connected on a 36-yard field goal for a 17-0 lead.  Parker got on the board late in the second quarter with a 15-yard touchdown pass.  Tri-Valley did not let that be the last score of the first half.  Dybvig found the endzone again on a 50-yard run.  The Mustangs led 24-6 at halftime.

Neither team got into the endzone in the third quarter, but Tri-Valley scored again early in the fourth.  McFarland had a four-yard touchdown run, and Smith’s extra point pushed the lead to 31-6.  Parker’s final touchdown was on a 23-yard touchdown pass.  McFarland scored his third rushing touchdown on a 40-yard run with 7:24 left in the game.  Ty Oyen connected with Cyrus Kirstein on a 45-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth for the Mustangs.

Tri-Valley had 400 yards of total offense, 332 rushing yards and 68 passing yards.  Parker was held to 164 yards of offense, 51 rushing yards and 113 passing yards.

Dybvig had 10 carries for 183 yards and two touchdowns.  McFarland finished with nine carries for 75 yards and three touchdowns.  McFarland was 1-3 passing for 23 yards and an interception.  Oyen was 1-1 passing for 45 yards and a touchdown.  Kirstein had a 45 yard catch and a touchdown.  Landyn Reiser had a catch for 23 yards.

The defense was led by Colby Carruthers with six tackles.  Connor Carruthers finished with five tackles.  Dybvig added three tackles.  McFarland had two tackles and an interception.  Logan Ellison, Isaac Nehlich, and Brendan Newman all had two tackles each.
