Late Three Point Shot Lifts Huskies over Mustang Girls

A made three-point shot with about :20 to go in the game gave the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies a 44-43 win over the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Thursday, January 25th.

The Mustangs started the game on an 8-0 run, but the Huskies rallied to finish the quarter on an 18-5 run.  Elk Point-Jefferson led 18-13 at the end of the first quarter.  The Mustangs got within three points, 25-22, at halftime.  Tri-Valley tied the game 25-25 and 30-30, eventually taking a 32-30 lead with just under 2:00 to go in the third quarter.  The Huskies scored the final four points of the quarter for 34-32 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

Elk Point-Jefferson scored the first few points of the fourth quarter and held a 40-35 lead.  Tri-Valley went on a 5-0 run and tied the game 40-40 late in the quarter.  The Huskies retook the lead, 41-40, after a made free-throw.  Elizabeth Davey gave the Mustangs a 43-41 lead with under a minute to play after a three-point shot from the top of the key.  The two teams traded turnovers until the made three-point shot by the Huskies with :20 to go.  Tri-Valley had a good look from three-point area, but the last second shot was too hard.

Davey finished with 20 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Mattie Huwe had nine points, three rebounds, and two steals.  Hailey Sorenson added five points.  Madelyn Wenzel had four points  and 10 rebounds.  Hillary Hastings had three points, and Lauren Grinde ended with two points, four rebounds, and four assists.
