Late Rally Falls Short for Tri-Valley Boys

The Tri-Valley Mustangs cut a 19-point deficit to single digits late in the game, but the rally ran out of time in Vermillion on Tuesday, December 19th.  The Tanagers held on for a 67-57 victory.

The Mustangs couldn’t overcome 27 turnovers in the game.  They fell behind by double digits early in the game and trailed 23-13 at the end of the first quarter.  Vermillion extended the lead to 41-28 by halftime.  The Tanager lead grew again in the third quarter, and the Mustangs trailed 57-39 going into the fourth quarter.  Tri-Valley cut the deficit to eight points, 65-57, but time ran out on the Mustangs.

Tri-Valley shot 40% (23-58) overall in the game, 31% (8-26) on three-point attempts, and 3-4 from the free-throw line.  Vermillion was 37% (22-59) shooting overall, 32% (6-19) from three-point area, and 68% (17-25) from the free-throw line.

Trey Johnson had 18 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.  Alex Wingen finished with nine points and six rebounds.  Carter Sorenson added eight points, four rebounds, and three assists.  Tristen Bunde had seven points and five rebounds.  Isaac Langloss had six points and 10 rebounds, while Brady Jewett had six points and three rebounds.
