Early Lead Not Enough for Tri-Valley Baseball

Tri-Valley opened their 2024 high school baseball season at home against Sioux Falls Christian on Wednesday, April 3rd.  Their early 2-0 lead was not enough as Sioux Falls Christian took the win 13-6.

After Tri-Valley loaded the bases with their first three batters, both Tyler Groenewold and Hunter Foster were hit by a pitch to drive in runs and give Tri-Valley a 2-0 lead.  Sioux Falls Christian, however, had a big second inning scoring six runs for a 6-2 lead.  The score remained 6-2 until the fifth inning.

Sioux Falls Christian scored two more times for an 8-2 lead.  Tri-Valley also scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Groenewold was hit by a pitch again with the bases loaded, and Tristen Bunde had an RBI sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 8-4.  The Chargers would get two more runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh.  Tri-Valley added single runs in their half of the sixth and seventh innings.  B Dybvig had an RBI single, and Treyson Richter had an RBI fielder’s choice ground ball.

Richter had a double and an RBI.  Dybvig had a single and an RBI.  Ryan Lehman and Landon Schenkel each had a single.  Groenewold had two RBIs.  Foster and Bunde both had one RBI each.  Groenewold pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing six runs, four earned, on six hits and five walks with two strikeouts.  Bunde threw 4 2/3 innings and allowed seven runs, four earned, on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts.
