The Tri-Valley Mustangs opened the 2022 season at home against the Garretson Blue Dragons on Tuesday, August 23rd. The Blue Dragons won in straight sets 25-12, 25-17, and 25-9.
Garretson used big runs in each of the three sets in the match win. The Mustangs held a 5-4 lead early in the first set, but Garretson then scored 12 straight points for a 16-5 lead. The Blue Dragons cruised from there to the 25-12 win.
Tri-Valley built a 9-3 lead early in the second set. Garretson then went on an 8-1 run and led 11-10. The teams went back-and-forth for the next few points, and the set was tied 16-16. Garretson ended the set on a 9-1 run for the set win. The Blue Dragons continued the momentum into the third set and started on a 7-2 run. Garretson continued from there to take the third set and win the match.
Cheyenne Hanson and Brookelyn Stieben each had 12 digs. Megan Wenzel had three kills and two ace serves. Maddie Wenzel finished with three blocks. Stieben had three set assists, and Nevaeh Grann had two assists.
Tri-Valley (0-1) will be at the Irene-Wakonda tournament on Saturday, August 27th.
