The Tri-Valley Mustang football team finished the 2025 regular season on the road in Canton on Thursday, October 23rd. The Mustangs used big plays to help them to a 33-23 victory against the C-Hawks.
First Half
Canton got the first score of the game on a 32-yard field goal for an early 3-0 lead. They would add to the lead after a one-yard touchdown run and extra point with 5:49 left in the quarter. The C-Hawks led 10-0 at that point. Tri-Valley got on the board about a minute and a half later. Brody Dyvig scored on a one-yard run, two plays after he had a big gain down the sideline. The extra point was made by Jackson William to make the score 10-7. Brady Jewett and Landyn Reiser connected on a beautiful 69-yard touchdown pass over the middle of the field with 1:33 to play in the opening quarter to give the Mustangs a 13-10 lead. The first quarter ended with Tri-Valley leading 13-10.
The defenses were the big story in the second quarter. Canton had the only score of the quarter. They found the end zone on a 15-yard scramble by the quarterback with :51 to play in the half. The extra point was good to give the C-Hawks a 17-13 lead going into halftime.
Second Half
The third quarter belonged to the Mustangs. Dybvig found the end zone again on a 60-yard run with 10:34 remaining in the quarter. The two-point conversion was no good, but the Mustangs regained the lead, 19-17. About three and half minutes later, Jewett connected with Ty Oyen on a 50-yard touchdown pass. Jewett scored the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 27-17.
Jewett had his third passing touchdown of the game with 8:43 to play in the game. He found Owen Effling for a 25-yard pass. The two-point attempt was no good, and Tri-Valley led 33-17. Canton got a 14-yard touchdown pass with 5:22 remaining. Their two-point attempt was no good keeping the score 33-23. Canton did get the ball back with a couple of minutes remaining in the game and drove deep into Mustang territory. Effling intercepted a pass at the goal line with :10 to go to end the game.
The Mustangs finished the regular season with a 6-3 record and a #6 seed in the 11A playoffs. Tri-Valley will travel to #3 Lennox to face the Orioles in the opening round on Thursday, October 30th at 6:00 p.m.
