Tri-Valley Boys Basketball Falls in Season Opener

The Tri-Valley Mustang boys basketball team also hosted the Parkston Trojans on Friday, December 8th for their first game of the 2023-2024 season.  A run in the first quarter put Parkston in front and they never looked back to a 64-53 victory.

The Trojans scored the first four points of the game, but Tri-Valley responded with five straight for a 5-4 lead.  Parkston then finished the first quarter with a 17-5 advantage for a 21-10 lead.  That advantage proved to be the difference in the game.  The Mustangs trailed 35-20 at halftime.  Tri-Valley put together a rally in the third quarter and cut the lead to six, 43-37, but Parkston ended the third quarter with a 49-39 advantage.  The Mustangs got within six again, 52-46, early in the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t overcome that early deficit.

Tri-Valley shot 39% (22-57) from the field overall, 17% (4-23) from three-point area, and 5-11 from the free-throw line.  The Trojans were 42% (27-65) shooting overall, 2-6 on three-point attempts, and 44% (8-18) from the free-throw line.

Trey Johnson finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three blocked shots.  Brady Jewett added 10 points and three rebounds.  Tristen Bunde had eight points, eight rebounds, and three steals.  Alex Wingen also had eight points with two rebounds and three assists.  Carter Sorenson added six points, five rebounds, and four assists.
