Titans Stop Mustang Rally

The Tri-Valley Mustang girls got behind early to the Mt Vernon/Plankinton Titans on Saturday, January 7th.  The Mustangs tried to make a rally in the second half, but the Titans were able to stop that rally and win 67-49.

Mt Vernon/Plankinton built a 16-point lead in the first quarter, 23-7.  The lead stayed at 16 at the end of the first half, 30-20.  Tri-Valley was able to get the lead down to 12 points by the end of third quarter, 50-38.  The Mustangs scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 50-40 and seemed to be building momentum, but the Titans went on a 13-0 run to put the game out of reach for the Mustangs.

Tri-Valley shot 36% (19-53) from the field, 21% (4-19) from three-point area, and 47% (7-15) from the free-throw line.  Mt Vernon/Plankinton was 45% (24-53) overall, 35% (7-20) from three-point area, and 55% (12-22) from the free-throw line.  The Titans also out-rebounded the Mustangs 36-28.

Lauren Grinde had 14 points and four steals.  Ava Pearson had 12 points and nine rebounds.  Madelyn Wenzel and Julie Mauszycki both had seven points and three rebounds each.
