Ethan Ends Quarrier Girls Winning Streak

NewDRLogoThe Ethan Rustlers overcame a slight halftime deficit to beat the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls at the Parkston Classic on Monday, December 28th, in Parkston.

Ethan held a 13-10 lead after the first quarter, but Dell Rapids held the Rustlers to just 10 second quarter points.  The Quarriers took a 26-23 lead into halftime.  Ethan cut the lead down to one by the end of the third quarter at 36-35.  The Rustlers then went on to score 21 points in the fourth quarter on their way to a 56-46 win.

Dell Rapids was led by Mikaela Stofferahn with 14 points.  Emma Paul added 11 points.

The Quarriers (3-3) will host Garretson on Tuesday, January 5th.

Quarriers Sweep Baltic on “Night of Champions” Celebration

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls and boys basketball teams both defeated the Baltic Bulldogs during the “Night of Champions” celebration on Tuesday, December 22nd, at the Dell Rapids High School.  The 1975-76 boys state champion team and the 2005-06 girls state champion teams were honored during halftime of the respective games during the night.

The Quarrier girls exploded for 31 first quarter points on their way to a 31-5 lead after the first quarter.  Dell Rapids led 43-12 at halftime.  The offense continued to roll for Dell Rapids in the second half.  The Quarriers finished the third quarter ahead 61-23 and cruised to a 80-29 win to pick up their second win in a row.  Mikaela Stofferahn led Dell Rapids with 22 points in the game.

The boys followed the girls’ example and raced out to a large lead in the first quarter.  Dell Rapids put up 24 points while holding Baltic to just four for a 24-4 lead after the first quarter.  The Quarriers kept up the offensive and defensive pressure in the second quarter extending their lead to 45-8.  Dell Rapids finished the third quarter ahead 62-22 on their way to a 75-27 win over Baltic.  Sheldon Siemonsma finished with 15 points, and Ty Hoglund added 14 points.

The Quarrier girls (3-2) will play in the Parkston Classic on Monday, December 29th.

The Quarrier boys (3-0) will play Sioux Valley at the Entringer Classic at 6:00 p.m. in Brookings on Thursday, December 31st.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Girls Back in Win Column

DRHSvsDeubrook_GBB_12-19-15After losing two close games at home, the Dell Rapids Quarriers got back into the win column with a 58-27 victory over the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Saturday, December 19th, at the Entringer Classic in Colman.

The Quarriers got off to a bit of a slow start as Deubrook Area led 13-9 after the first quarter.  It wasn’t long before Dell Rapids took the lead and never looked back.  Dell Rapids held Deubrook Area to just three points in the second quarter, and the Quarriers led 26-16 at halftime.  The Dolphins were only able to score four points in third quarter as Dell Rapids put up 17 more to end the third ahead 43-20.  The Quarriers out-scored Deubrook Area 15-7 in the fourth quarter as well.

Dell Rapids held the Dolphins to just 25% (11-44) shooting from the field and out-rebounded Deubrook Area 41-23.  The Quarrier defense also forced 18 turnovers.

Every varsity player for Dell Rapids scored in the game.  Mikaela Stofferahn led all players with 12 points and seven rebounds.  Emma Paul added 10 points and seven rebounds.  Arial Hoffman finished with nine points, and Kali Graham and Kaylee Hennen each had six points.  Hoffman and Aspen Hansen each had six rebounds.

Stofferahn was named the game’s MVP.

Dell Rapids (2-2) will host Baltic as part of a double-header with the boys team on Tuesday, December 22nd.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Tea Area’s Late Run Sparks Win over Quarrier Girls

NewDRLogoTea Area outscored the Dell Rapids Quarriers 10-1 in the final 5:07 of the game to earn a come-from-behind win 48-45 on Friday, December 18th, in Dell Rapids.

The Quarriers led early in the ball game taking a 15-8 lead after the first quarter.  The Titans scored the first seven points of the second quarter to tie the game at 15-15.  The game was tied again 18-18 with 2:00 to go in the second quarter.  Dell Rapids finished the half on a 4-1 run to lead 22-19 at halftime.

Tea Area took the lead with 4:00 to go in the third quarter 30-28.  Both teams traded baskets until Dell Rapids regained the lead at 36-35 at the end of the quarter.  The Titans scored the first three points of the fourth quarter to jump ahead 38-36, but Dell Rapids went on a 8-0 run to put the Quarriers in front 44-38 with 5:00 to play in the game.  That’s when the Titans made their final run of the game for the win.

Mikaela Stofferahn led Dell Rapids with 19 points.  Emma Paul added 10 points.  Karlee McKinney had a game-high 29 points for the Titans.

Dell Rapids (1-2) will play Deubrook Area on Saturday, December 19th, in Colman at the Entringer Classic.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

McCook Central/Montrose Rallies for OT Win over Quarrier Girls

NewDRLogoThe McCook Central/Montrose Cougars rallied for a come-from-behind, overtime win against the Dell Rapids Quarriers 66-61 on Monday, December 14th, at Dell Rapids High School.

Dell Rapids took the lead in the first quarter and led 16-12 by the end of the quarter.  McCook Central/Montrose tied the game at 20-20 towards the end of the second quarter, but Dell Rapids closed out the half on a 5-2 run to take a 25-2 lead into halftime.  The Cougars cut the Quarrier lead to one at the end of the third quarter at 37-36.

McCook Central/Montrose then took the lead in the fourth quarter.  The Cougars lead 54-50 with under a minute to play in the game.  Lindsey Morris hit a three-point shot to pull within a point at 54-53.  With :06 remaining the game, the Cougars missed the front end of a one-and-one, giving the Quarriers a chance at the end of the game.  Kaylee Hennen drove the lane and was fouled on a last-second shot.  Hennen made one-of-two free throws with :00.8 left to tie the game at 54-54 and send the game into overtime.

However, during the overtime period, McCook Central/Montrose took an early lead and made enough free throws down the stretch to come away with the win over the Quarriers.

Dell Rapids was led by Mikaela Stofferahn with 15 points.  Emma Paul finished with 14 points, while Averi Pankonen added 11 points for the Quarriers.

Dell Rapids (1-1) will host Tea Area on Friday, December 18th, as part of a double-header.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Girls Cruise to Season-Opening Win

NewDRLogoAfter a slow start, the Dell Rapids Quarriers cruised to a 62-35 win over the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers in girls basketball action on Tuesday, December 8th, at Sioux Falls Christian High School.

The Chargers held a 16-11 lead after the first quarter, but the Quarrier defense held Sioux Falls Christian to just 19 points in the remaining three quarters of the game.  Dell Rapids outscored the Chargers 15-2 in the second quarter to take a 26-18 lead at halftime.  The Quarriers pushed their lead to 45-27 after the third quarter.

Mikaela Stofferahn led the Quarriers with 23 points and six rebounds.  Averi Pankonen had 11 points, and Emma Paul finished with eight points and seven rebounds.

Dell Rapids (1-0) will host McCook Central/Montrose on Monday, December 14th.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

JV Results:

The Quarrier JV team earned a 52-11 win over Sioux Falls Christian.  Aspen Hansen had 14 points and nine rebounds.  Kaylee Hennen and Kali Graham both had nine points, and Tiffanie Dorale had three assists.

C Team Results:

The Quarrier C Team also picked up a win against the Chargers.  Dell Rapids won 25-13.  Jayda Knuppe had 11 points, while Jenae Schoeberl finished with six points.

2015 Dak-12 All-Conference Team Selections

Dak12Conference-2Three Quarrier girls were selected to be on the 2015 Dak-12 All-Conference teams this year.  Mikaela Stofferahn was selected to the first team.  She averaged 10.09 points per game against conference opponents, 1.18 steals, and 6.18 rebounds.  Brittney Siemonsma was selected to the third team.  She averaged 7.09 points per game against conference opponents, 1.73 assists, 0.91 steals, and 5.91 rebounds.  Arial Hoffman was an honorable mention selection.  She averaged 9.45 points per game in conference games, 2.36 assits, 1.45 steals, and 3.64 rebounds.

Dell Rapids finished fourth in the conference standings on the year with an 8-3 record.

Quarrier Girls Finish 6th at State A Tournament

DRHSvsCWL31415_2The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls fell to the Clark/Willow Lake Cyclones on Saturday afternoon by a score of 73-34 in the final day of the 2015 State A Tournement.  The Cyclones jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter and never looked back.  Clark/Willow Lake led 23-6 at the end of the first quarter, and 42-13 at halftime.  The Cyclone offense continued to roll in the second half outscoring Dell Rapids 31-21.

Dell Rapids shot 26% (11-43) from the field in the game, 26% (5-19) from three-point area, and 64% (7-11) from the free-throw line.  The Quarriers had 26 team rebounds, five assists and turned the ball over 15 times.  The Cyclones shot 56% (29-52) from the field, 42% (8-19) from three-point area, and also 64% (7-11) from the free-throw line.

Mikaela Stofferahn finished with 11 points and four rebounds.  Emma Paul added 10 points and six rebounds.  Averi Pankonen, Sarah Haak, Kaylee Hennen, and Lindsey Morris all had three points apiece. DRHSvsCWL31415_1  Stofferahn was also awarded an All-Tournament selection for her performance in the three state tournament games.

Dell Rapids finishes the season with a Region 3A Championship, 6th place finish at the State A Tournament, and an overall record of 14-11.

A welcome home event was held for the girls on Sunday, March 15th at the MS/HS Commons area.

Three Pointers Fall for Quarrier Girls in Win

NewDRLogoFive different girls made three-point shots, nine different players scored, and two players finished in double figures as the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls scored the most points in a game all year in a 79-67 win over the Red Cloud Crusaders at the State A Tournament in Watertown on Friday.

Dell Rapids scored 20 or more points in two of the four quarters and outscored the Crusaders in every quarter.  The Quarriers led 21-17 after a high-scoring first quarter by both teams.  Dell Rapids extended the lead to 35-27 at halftime.  The Quarriers then scored 44 second half points on their way to the win.

The Quarriers finished the game shooting 50% (22-44) from the field, 47% (7-15) from three-point area, and 76% (28-37) from the free-throw line.  The Crusaders finished 45% (25-56) from the field, 50% (11-22) from three-point area, and 35% (6-17) from the free-throw line.  Dell Rapids out-rebounded Red Cloud 39-23 in the ball game.

Mikaela Stofferahn led Dell Rapids with 27 points and eight rebounds.  Averi Pankonen added 10 points.  Emma Paul finished with nine points.  Arial Hoffman had eight points, six rebounds and three assists.  Lindsey Morris also ended the game with eight points.  Sami Reider, Kaylee Hennen, Hoffman, Pankonen, and Morris all made three-point shots in the game.

Dell Rapids will face Clark/Willow Lake in the Consolation Championship game for 5th/6th place on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. in their final game of the year.

Quarrier Girls Fall to MVP in Opening Round of State A

DRHSvsMVP_GBB_StateA1The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls couldn’t overcome a slow start offensively as they fell to the Mt Vernon/Plankinton Titans 55-36 in the opening round of the State A Tournament in Watertown.  Dell Rapids was held to just 15 points in the first two quarters as the Titans took a 31-15 halftime lead.  The Titans extended the lead to 46-26 by the end of the third quarter.  Dell Rapids was able to outscore Mt Vernon/Plankinton 10-9 in the final quarter.

Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 32% (12-37) from the field, 22% (4-18) from the three-point area, and 53% (8-15) from the free-throw line.  The Quarriers ended with 21 rebounds and turned the ball over eight times.  The Titans shot 54% (21-39) from the field, 38% (3-8) from three-point area, and 67% (10-15) from the free-throw line.  DRHSvsMVP_GBB_StateA2

Arial Hoffman led Dell Rapids with 11 points in the game.  Mikaela Stofferahn added 10 points and five rebounds.  Emma Paul tallied five points and pulled down seven rebounds.  The Titans had three players in double-figures led by Payleen O’Day with 19 points.  Megan Bultsma had 18 points, and Makaela Karst finished with 16 points.

Dell Rapids will play Red Cloud at 1:45 p.m. on Friday.
