The Dell Rapids Quarriers won their third straight 11A Football Championship on Friday, November 9th, at the Dakota Dome with a 47-0 win over the Harrisburg Tigers.

Quarriers Roll into Semi-Finals

October 30, 2012 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

For some, Monday night football featured the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals, but for the true high school football fans, and more specifically, the Dell Rapids Quarriers football fans, Monday night football featured a romp and stomp affair as Dell Rapids destroyed Chamberlain, 47-6.   As in the opening round of the football playoffs last week, Dells opened up a 28-0 lead after one quarter.  The difference this week was the presence of Cole Langer—-3 rushes, 3 touchdowns—and instead of a kick-off return for a touchdown, this time it was a blocked punt causing the ball to head into the end zone where Andrew Wiebenga made the recovery for the other TD of the first quarter.   By intermission, Cody Nielsen got into the scoring frenzy making it 35-0.  Before the end of the second quarter, Coach Steve Hansen was getting back-up players into the game for more “game time experience”.  As Hansen told Big Sioux Media in the post-game interview, “Everybody got into the game tonight…every player…and when we can do that, it feels good”.  Second half scoring for Dell Rapids included touchdowns by Brett Nichols and Matthew DeNoon.   The win allows Quarriers fans to stay home and support the team in the semi-final game Saturday against Hot Springs, winners over Todd County.  Other teams winning in 11A included Spearfish and Harrisburg ending the season for West Central and Dakota Valley.

Dell Rapids racked up 263 yards of total offense while holding Chamberlain to just 83 yards.  Langer had three carries for 104 yards and the three touchdowns.  Joel Brust had two carries for 40 yards, and Nielson had two carries for 24 yards and a touchdown.  Matt Kolbeck was 1-4 passing for two yards.  Tanner Solberg was 1-1 passing for 26 yards.  James Webster was on the receiving end of the Solberg pass for 26 yards.  Tyler Gee led the defense with four tackles.  Bryce Koch finished the game with 3.5 tackles, and Wiebenga added three tackles for the Quarriers.  Tanner Ljunggren had an interception.

The semi-final game on Saturday will kickoff at 5:00 p.m., with the webcast starting at 4:45 p.m. on Big Sioux Media.
