The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team earned a straight-set win over the Brookings Bobcats in Brookings on Thursday, September 17th. The Quarriers won by set scores of 25-22, 25-13, and 25-10.
The opening set started with ties of 2-2 and 5-5. Brookings then went on a 5-0 run for a 10-5 lead. Dell Rapids fought back to tie the score 12-12. The Quarriers kept that momentum going and went on a 6-1 run to go in front 18-13. The Bobcats closed the gap to one point, 22-21, but the Quarriers finished the set on a 3-1 advantage to win 25-22.
Dell Rapids carried that win into the second and third sets. The Quarriers started with a quick 8-2 run in the second set. They extended their lead to 16-4 and then to 21-7 before winning 25-13. Brookings started the third set with a 3-0 run and continued to lead 5-3, but it was all Dell Rapids after that point. The Quarriers went on a 10-1 run to take a 13-6 lead. They would outscore Brookings 12-4 the rest of the match for a 25-10 win.
Madelynn Henry had 18 kills, six digs, and three ace serves. Sylea Sykes finished with seven kills, 12 digs, and three ace serves. Tenley Witzel added five kills, 10 digs, and two set assists. Tenley Anderson had 34 set assists and five digs. Alaina Wolff had seven digs. Josie Price ended with four kills and four blocks.
