The Dell Rapids Quarrier softball team got back into the win column with a 13-8 win over the Chester Flyers at home on Friday, May 15th. The Quarriers used two big offensive innings to help them to the win.
Chester got a run in the top of the first without the benefit of a hit for an early 1-0 lead. Dell Rapids responded with their first big inning of the game. Lexi Scherff tied the game by scoring on an error. Gabriella Carstensen drove home two with a single, Emma Lanpher had an RBI single, and Sylea Sykes scored on an error for a 5-1 Quarrier lead.
The Flyers scored another run on a steal of home in the top of the third to make the score 5-2. The Quarriers seemed headed to an easy win after scoring eight times in the bottom of the third for a 13-2 lead. Chloe Carver had an RBI single. Two runs scored on an error for an 8-2 lead. Carstensen and Lanpher both had RBI singles. Carstensen and Lanpher both later scored, and Sykes added an RBI single. Chester responded with six runs in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 13-8. However, neither team could get much going offensively, and Dell Rapids was able to hold for the win.
Carstensen had three hits and three RBIs. Lanpher finished with two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Sykes ended with a single and a double with an RBI. Carver also had two hits and an RBI. Scherff and Ela Johnson each had two singles. Aisley Grib and Josie Becker each had one hit.
Emily Baker pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed eight runs, six earned, on five hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Scherff pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed just a hit with two strikeouts.
