The Dell Rapids Quarrier softball team hosted the Garretson Blue Dragons on Tuesday, April 7th for their first game of the season. Dell Rapids scored seven runs in the bottom of the first and rolled to a 15-5 win.
After Garretson went scoreless in the top of the first, two runs scored for Dell Rapids on a single by Sylea Sykes. Sykes later scored on a passed ball. Aisley Grib had an RBI single, and Chloe Carver had a three-run inside-the-park home run for a 7-0 lead. The Blue Dragons scored two runs in the top of the second, but Dell Rapids got those runs back in the bottom of the inning on on an error and RBI ground out by J Becker.
Garretson got another run in the top of the third. The Quarriers scored three more runs in the bottom of the third. Emily Baker had an RBI, Sykes added an RBI double, and Josie Becker had an RBI single. Dell Rapids added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 15-3 lead. Garretson plated two runs in the top of the fifth, but the game ended on the 10-run rule.
Sykes had two hits, one a double, and three RBIs. Grib added two hits and an RBI. Emma Lanpher also had two hits, one a double. Ella Johnson ended with two singles. Carver had a home run with three RBIs. Becker and Baker each added a single and two RBIs. Lexi Scherff had one hit. Baker pitched five innings and allowed five runs, three earned, on two hits and five walks with six strikeouts.
