The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls punched their ticket to the SoDak16 with a 43-35 win over the Flandreau Fliers in the Region 3A Tournament on Thursday, February 26th.
After the Quarriers led 6-5 with 3:30 to play in the opening quarter, they finished the quarter on a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 11-5. They continued to lead by six, 13-7, with 6:45 to go in the second quarter. Flandreau then went on a 9-2 run to take the lead 16-15 with :45 to play in the half. Dell Rapids scored the final two points of the half to lead 17-16 at the break.
The Fliers scored the first three points of the third quarter to go back in front 19-17 with 6:50 remaining. The Quarriers then went on an 8-0 run to go ahead 25-19 with 5:00 in the quarter. They pushed the lead to 32-24 by the end of the third quarter. Dell Rapids started the fourth quarter on a 5-0 run to extend the advantage to 37-24 with 6:15 to play. Flandreau went on an 8-0 run to pull within five points, 37-32, with 4:30 to go. The Quarriers held off any further run and finished the game on a 6-3 advantage to take the win.
Dell Rapids shot 35% (16-46) from the field overall, 22% (2-9) on three-point shots, and 82% (9-11) from the free-throw line. Flandreau was 23% (12-52) shooting overall, 30% (6-20) from three-point area, and 5-7 from the free-throw line.
Rorie Thoreson had 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Josie Price had seven points and 11 rebounds. Jersi Schutz ended with seven points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Taylor Schmidt also had seven points with four rebounds. Elin Schoenhard had four points and five rebounds.
