The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls earned a 77-40 win over the Madison Bulldogs in the opening round of the Region 3A Tournament on Tuesday, February 24th.
The Quarriers took a quick 6-0 lead to start the game. Madison, however, went on an 11-4 run to take the lead 11-10 with 2:30 to go in the opening quarter. The Bulldogs held the lead 15-14 at the end of the quarter. Dell Rapids then went on a huge run. They went on a 19-0 run to go in front 33-15 with 5:00 to play in the half. Dell Rapids would lead 38-22 at halftime.
Madison tried to get back into the early in the third quarter. They cut the deficit to 44-31 with 5:15 in the quarter. The Quarriers ended any rally at that point. They went on a 13-0 run to increase their lead to 57-31 with 2:00 to go. The third quarter ended with Dell Rapids leading 61-36.
Dell Rapids shot 44% (31-70) from the field overall, 41% (7-17) on three-point attempts, and 73% (8-11) from the free-throw line. Madison finished the game shooting 26% (14-53) overall, 26% (5-19) from three-point area, and 50% (5-10) from the free-throw line.
Rorie Thoreson led the team with 31 points, six steals, five assists, and three rebounds. Josie Price added 19 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Jersi Schultz also had double figures with 11 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks. Taylor Schmit had eight points and seven rebounds.
