The 2024 defending State A Champions, Dell Rapids Quarriers, started the 2025 season with a straight-set win on the road against Elkton-Lake Benton on Tuesday, August 26th. They won by scores of 25-17, 25-21, and 25-16.
The Quarriers jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead to start the match. The Elks chipped away and got the score tied 11-11. Elkton-Lake Benton took a quick 13-12 lead, but Dell Rapids quickly erased the deficit. The Quarriers went on an 8-1 run to go ahead 20-14 before taking the win 25-17.
The Elks hung with Dell Rapids throughout the second set. The Quarriers held a one-point lead early at 5-4 and 7-6. They were able to push the lead to three, 12-9. Elkton-Lake Benton got within a point at 16-15 and then tied the score 20-20. After another tie at 21-21, Dell Rapids scored the final four points for a 25-21 win.
The third set started with a quick 1-1 tie. Dell Rapids would then go on a 9-1 run to take a 10-2 advantage. The Elks tried to get back into the set and rallied to pull within three points, 14-11. The Quarriers responded with a 4-0 to extend the lead to 18-11. Elkton-Lake Benton would not get any closer than five points, 20-15, as Dell Rapids won the set 25-16 to take the match.
Madelynn Henry had 16 kills, and Sylea Sykes added eight kills. Jocelyn Amundson notched four service aces, and Tenley Anderson scored a total of 23 set assists.
Dell Rapids will host West Central in their first home match of the season on Thursday, August 28th. The match can be seen on Big Sioux Media Sports Network.
