The Dell Rapids Quarriers earned a straight-set win over the West Central Trojans in the first home match of the season on Thursday, August 28th. Dell Rapids used a run in each of the three sets and won by scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-16.
The Trojans took the lead in the opening set 2-0 and added to it at 5-2. Dell Rapids tied the score 5-5. The score was tied 7-7 before West Central scored the next three points for a 10-7 lead. Dell Rapids responded with three straight to tie the score 10-10. The score was tied again at 14-14 and 15-15. The Quarriers then went on a 7-1 run to take a 22-16 lead to help them to the 25-19 win.
West Central began the second set with an early lead, 3-1. Dell Rapids tied the score 5-5 and then went ahead 9-6. The Quarriers extended that lead to 17-11 and continued to lead 20-15. They would finish the set on a 5-1 run for a 25-16 victory.
Dell Rapids held the early advantage, 8-5, to start the third set. West Central rallied for three straight points to tie the score 8-8. The Quarriers regained the lead 12-10 and led 13-12 before the Trojans tied the score 14-14. Leading by a score of 16-15, Dell Rapids ended the match on a 9-1 run for another 25-16 win.
Madelynn Henry finished with 22 kills and two ace serves. Elin Schoenhard and Sylea Sykes each had seven kills in the match. Tenley Anderson had 38 set assists, and Alaina Wolff had two ace serves.
