The Dell Rapids Quarrier boys faced the #2 ranked Hamlin Chargers at the Entringer Classic in Brookings on Saturday, December 28th. A big third quarter run led to the Chargers taking a 53-26 win over the Quarriers.
Both offenses struggled to get shots to fall in the first half, and each team had a little run in the opening quarter. Hamlin scored the first two points of the game early, and they continued to lead 2-0 until Dell Rapids got their first field goal at the 4:45 mark. The Quarriers added six more points to take an 8-2 lead with 2:30 left in the quarter. Hamlin finished the first quarter on a 7-0 run for a 9-8 lead at the break. The Chargers continued the run with a made three-point shot to start the second quarter for a 12-8 lead. The teams went back and forth the rest of the quarter, and the score was tied 19-19 at halftime.
Dell Rapids opened the third quarter with a put-back dunk by Jack Kloth for a 21-19 advantage with 7:40 left in the third quarter. The Quarriers were then held scoreless the remainder of the quarter. Hamlin was able to score 23 straight points the remainder of the third quarter to take a 42-21 lead into the fourth quarter. The run continued for Hamlin into the fourth quarter as they outscored the Quarriers 11-5.
The Quarriers shot just 26% (11-43) overall, 18% (2-11) on three-point attempts, and 2-3 from the free-throw line. Hamlin was just 19% (3-16) on three-point attempts in the first half, but got the shots to fall in the second half. The Chargers shot 42% (20-48) overall, 35% (9-26) on three-point shots, and 4-5 from the free-throw line.
Kloth had seven points, nine rebounds, and two blocked shots. Karson Paye finished with five points. Lincoln Anderson also had five points with two assists. Lincoln Fersdahl added three points and three rebounds. Jackson Peppel, Carson Maeschen, and Ryan Bradenburg all had two points each.
