The Dell Rapids Quarriers had their highest scoring game of the year on Friday, October 11th. Dell Rapids defeated the Canton C-Hawks 62-22 for their sixth straight win of the season.
The C-Hawks held a lead in the first quarter, scoring the only touchdown of the quarter. They held a 7-0 lead after a 45-yard touchdown run and extra point. Dell Rapids tied the game on the first play of the second quarter . Quinn Carr had a two-yard touchdown run, and Cooper Frost made the extra point. Cole Ruesink put the Quarriers in front with 9:44 to go in the half on a 66-yard run. Drake Eastman caught a 47-yard touchdown pass from Frost with 6:26 remaining to push the lead to 21-7. Canton added a 37-yard field goal with 2:09 on the clock. Dell Rapids would return the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. Ryan Stubbe started the return at the 22-yard line. He took the ball to the 32-yard line and then handed it off to Ruesink before being tackled. Ruesink took it the rest of the way for the score. The Quarriers led 28-10 at halftime.
Carr would help the Quarriers add to the lead in the first minute of the second half. He had a five-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. The extra point was no good, but Dell Rapids extended the lead to 34-10. Canton scored on a 10-yard run with 8:39 to play in the third quarter to make the score 34-16. Carr would add a 65-yard touchdown run :14 later. Kenny Swanson had a great 55-yard touchdown run with 2:27 remaining in the quarter to push the lead to 48-16.
The C-Hawks got a 32-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the fourth quarter. Ruesink would find the endzone again on a 56-yard run with 11:03 to play in the game. Lucas Keener scored the final touchdown on an 11-yard run with 1:43 to play in the game.
Dell Rapids finished with 453 yards of total offense, 404 rushing yards and 49 passing yards. Canton had 340 yards of total offense, 243 rushing yards and 97 passing yards. Ruesink had 10 carries for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Carr had six carries for 95 yards and two scores. Swanson and Keener both had rushing touchdowns. Frost was 1-3 passing for 49 yards and a touchdown. Eastman had the touchdown catch. Will Ronshaugen had seven tackles. Keener and Stubbe both finished with six tackles each. Carr had three tackles and a fumble recovery.
