The Dell Rapids Quarriers rolled to an easy 43-7 win on Homecoming on Friday, September 18th over the Milbank Bulldogs. The Quarriers scored in every quarter in the win.
Carson Vanderwerf got the scoring started on defense. He had a 10-yard interception return for a touchdown just a little over a minute into the game. Connor Jones made the extra point for a 7-0 lead. That was the only score of the first quarter.
The Quarriers added two more touchdowns late in the second quarter. Jace Brende had a nine-yard run with 2:42 to go in the half. Brende added another touchdown on a 22-yard run less than two minutes later. Jones made both extra points to put Dell Rapids ahead 21-0 going into halftime.
Jackson Peppel had a 63-yard touchdown run seconds into the second half to extend the Dell Rapids led to 27-0. Hayden Hansen added an 87-yard touchdown pass to Peppel with 5:21 to go in the third quarter. A made two-point conversion gave the Quarriers a 35-0 lead. Milbank scored their only touchdown on the ensuing kickoff. They returned the kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown.
The Dell Rapids defense added another score with 10:11 to play in the game. Milbank fumbled a snap in the end zone resulting in a safety for the Quarriers. Peppel had his second rushing touchdown, third of the game overall, with 8:49 to play in the game on a 36-yard run.
Dell Rapids had 397 yards of total offense, 99 passing yards and 298 rushing yards. Milbank finished with 165 yards of offense, 133 passing yards and 32 passing yards.
Hansen was 2-8 passing for 99 yards and a touchdown. Peppel had a catch for 87 yards and a touchdown. Camden Jones had a catch for 12 yards. Peppel finished with six carries for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Brende added 15 carries for 108 yards and two touchdowns. Connor Jones had 10 carries for 39 yards. Peppel also had five tackles with an interception. Camden Jones had four tackles, and Brende had three tackles.
